The Duolingo English Test is a fast, flexible, and affordable English exam accepted by thousands of universities worldwide. This lesson introduces you to how the test works, what to expect, and the essential rules and strategies you need before taking your first attempt.
DUOLINGO READING
This chapter prepares you for the three reading tasks in the first half of the Duolingo English Test: Read and Select, Fill in the Blanks, and Read and Complete. You will learn how each task works, how it is timed and scored, and the strategies that turn vocabulary, grammar and context clues into correct answers. You then put those strategies to work in exercises built from real DET-style material, and finish with timed practice rounds under real test conditions. By the end, you will be ready to complete the official Duolingo reading practice with confidence.
DUOLINGO INTERACTIVE READING
Interactive Reading is one of the most valuable sections of the Duolingo English Test. You read one short passage and complete six connected tasks in about 7 to 8 minutes: choosing missing words, completing the passage with the right sentence, highlighting answers, identifying the main idea and choosing a title. In this chapter you will learn how each task works, study the strategies that raise your score, and then practise with timed passages that follow the real test. By the end, you will be able to read quickly, choose accurately and handle every task with confidence.
DUOLINGO LISTENING
Duolingo Listening is where you show you can understand spoken English in real time, and it counts for a large share of your total score. In this chapter you will work on the tasks where you hear a recording and respond: typing exactly what you hear in Listen and Type, and reading aloud what you see in Read Aloud, with strategies for each. You will study how the tasks are timed and scored, learn techniques for catching every word at natural speed, and then practise with timed rounds that follow the real test. By the end, you will be able to listen closely, type accurately and answer with confidence.
